Boho-Chic :: Appliqués, Embroidery & Embellishments - The Entertaining House

It started out innocently enough... a piece on tassels. That's all it was. But then as I was writing it and pairing images I saw these jeans - These amazing jeans and I thought to myself I need some jeans JUST like them. Or, I could turn a pair into some that look like that. And so I decided to poke around, mostly on Pinterest, and I found THESE jeans (above) and I was even MORE in love. Not lust. But a deep unbridled love. And I searched around some more and found the jeans below... Patchworks and bell-bottoms and I was like, Hey 1975, you left your jeans here! And then I took a closer look, and I liked what I saw. I quite liked the 1970s, all that I can remember of them. I was pretty young at the time. I had some pretty fab outfits back then that were far out for a little kid like me.  And then I saw jeans with patches and embellishments, designed by designers for lots of money. I mean lots and lots of money. (In case you don't think $750 is a lot to spend on a pair of denim dungarees.)

Beads! Beads and Patches...

Hello?!!!

Has anyone seen my Beadazzler? I'd like my Beadazzler back, please!

After looking at all these jeans I'm thinking that regular denim is just so so sooooooooo boring... I think I need to jazz up a pair of my jeans. From the Runway to Main Street... From Alexander McQueen to Zara... this embroidered-bedazzled phenomena isn't just for jeans... you'll find find just about everything can be enhanced with some material, thread and beads... (and let us not forget the tassels!)

There is a time and a place for classic pieces, and every wardrobe needs to have them, but even the classics need to have fun... Pair them with pieces that are fun and whimsical. Why can't a cashmere cardigan be paired with some embellished jeans and simple pumps? Why not jazz up a pair of tailored work pants with a fun embroidered jacket or top? A little black dress comes to life with an embellished bag or shoes.... Use your imagination....

Have some fun...

Live a little!

I'm going to try my hand at some embellished jeans because I happen to dig the 1970s, the fashion and music but I can't sew for #@^%... My mother did try to teach me... Both of my grandmothers did try... But I failed them all. I was a huge disappointment in the needle and thread department. I might be able to handle a patch... Do they make iron on patches? Maybe iron on appliqués? I really am a lost cause... Now excuse me while I try to locate that damned beadazzler...
