It's hard to believe that Easter is just a week away. Soon pastel colored blooms will be bursting all over the place. Soon we'll be able to pack up our coats and boots for the season... But soon can't come soon enough! As I sit to write this post it's a bitter 38 degrees outside and raining heavily. It's a day to stay wrapped up in flannel and wool as we dream of the warm weather ahead - days filled with warm sunshine that will kiss our shoulders, backs and foreheads. I'm ready to retire my sweaters and exchange them for sundresses!

This is typically the weekend that the kids and I spend time together and color eggs. With one off to college next year and another just two years after that my time with them as I've known it thus far is fleeting. With all three running in different directions, especially my older two, I'll take whatever time I have with them (when their heads aren't buried in their phones and laptops.) I most especially love those activities that have become tradition, that bring us together, even for brief moments. I'll buy too many eggs. We won't eat all of them of course, but we love to color them. As I am always looking for fun and unique ideas I perused the web and blogs. Inspired by so many, I've compiled some of my favorites to share with you as I have done the past few years. Maybe you don't have children yet or maybe the've flown from the nest, in that case gather some girlfriends together over a pot of tea or a glass of wine and have an Easter Egg Decorating Party of your own. Once you see the images I am sharing below, I know you'll be inspired!

Unsophisticook has an easy to follow tutorial for these fun and colorful rubber cement eggs. The link to her site is here

I am completely enamored with these mosaic eggs, the brainchild of Sugar and Charm. Perhaps a little too complicated for the younger set, grownups and teenagers will have fun trying their hands at this. These spectacular eggs will add a level of sophistication to your Easter table.

Who isn't mad about the simple sophistication of blue and white? These marbleized eggs are made with something we all have in our bathrooms - nail polish! Posh Little Designs shows us how something simple can be so beautiful and sophisticated. If you don't have blue polish on hand you can try these in other colors. This is easy enough to do you with young children, just be sure to have them fully covered with plenty of nail polish remover on hand! I think we may have to try a few of these this year!

The gals at Alice and Lois also have their hands at marbleized eggs. We love this version as well. Their understated elegance makes them deserving of being on display year-round.

These whipped cream dyed eggs might be better suited for the younger set. (I'd still have them fully covered, head to toe!) Only Deco Love shows us how to make magnificent, colorful marbled eggs using my kids' favorite food group and some food coloring.

These typography eggs are so much fun! A bit more complicated with more steps along the way, these are better left to those with more dextrous hands. The complete step-by-step tutorial can be found over at Lovely Indeed

Who doesn't love balloons? These brightly-colored, balloon-inspired eggs couldn't be easier to make. The youngest will delight in helping to make these! Though as they require a glue gun, you'll have to determine whether your child is ready yet or not to help with the balloon part. The egg coloring part is suitable for all! This genius idea comes from A Joyful Riot.

Simple, beautiful, sophisticated, fun... these hand painted eggs aren't dyed, but created with a brush and watercolors. If you visit Day Designer you'll see all the other wonderful eggs she has painted. This is an activity suitable to all ages.

Dream A Little Bigger has painted eggs on her website as well, but these are painted with food coloring (and a thin Sharpie) as opposed to watercolor. Food coloring, in concentrated format makes a lovely "paint." These too, can be managed by hands of all sizes and of all ages.

And lastly, for those who believe in magic... or at least in Unicorns! Wouldn't these be wonderful for a young girl's (or not so young!) Birthday that might fall around this time of year. These clever eggs and a tutorial can be found over at A Little Inspiration
